Hokitika Town

Charlotte RandallHokitika,1865, at the height of the gold rush. In a town with 100 pubs, young Halfie hangs around the Bathsheba, washing dishes, running errands, making the odd coin and relating what he sees of the parade of miners, misfits, dancing girls, petty criminals and plain drunks.

‘Among our contemporary writers of adult fiction, only Elizabeth Knox can match Charlotte Randall for the sheer scope of her imagination.’
