Jane Austen’s novels epitomise the same values of taste and restraint, harmony and grace that characterise the city of Bath. This illustrated lecture will explore the city through contemporary illustrations and engravings of buildings that feature in the novels Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. Jane Austen’s Bath will come to life – along with an understanding of why she never really liked the place.
This session is presented in association with the Nelson Decorative and Fine Arts Society as part of its programme of arts related lectures.
