This book is turning people all over New Zealand on to reading and loving great works of literature. When Professor Jim Flynn found fewer and fewer of his students were reading for pleasure, he decided to create an exciting list of novels and non-fiction illuminating history and the human condition.
He presents 200 works that are wonderful to read and revealing about times and places, from medieval Europe to modern-day America. The title honours his ‘uneducated’ Irish family, who learned by reading - including an uncle who read by torchlight on board ship in WWII. The Torchlight List was on Radio NZ over summer, hit the best seller list, and is already in its third printing.
